Mission:

.

To transform the People of Central City New Orleans through: Spiritual Development, Christian Community Development, and Strategic Ministry Partnerships.

Urban Impact Ministries has been serving at-risk youth and their families in the Central City of New Orleans since 1989 when Glen Schrieber first started playing games with the children in the New Orleans housing developments.  Since then the ministry has grown into the following program categories.

Education focuses on after-school reading programs that provide individual and small-group tutoring. These programs help elementary and middle school students learn to read and read to learn. Since Katrina, our devastated public educational system does not provide quality education for our neighborhood. UIM’s education program gives students hope and training. It provides an essential support system that helps students not only succeed but see that God has a plan and future for their lives.

High School has always been an important focus of Urban Impact. Even now, in a post-katrina world we are reaching out to High School students moving back into New Orleans.  Currently we have a large group meeting on Tuesday night from 6-8pm.  During this time the students are split into smaller groups for more in-depth Bible Study. All High School students are welcome to attend.

Middle School have always centered around a large group meeting called SLAM.  In this post-katrina world our middle school ministries now focus on a Tuesday night gathering from 6-8pm. Students play competition games, hear a Bible lesson, and keep the leaders young! During the evening the kids are split up into small groups for more in-depth Bible Study.

Discipleship  Our discipleship program ensures that students at all levels of growth and maturity are being encouraged and challenged in their walk with Jesus.  Using the model of 2 Timothy 2:2, we desire to see students learn so that they can grow to train others who will in turn train others.

This discipleship philosophy impacts what we do with all youth age groups, and we are also developing discipleship programs for our adults. Sandy Lee directs our discipleship program.
